Just A Girl With Disney Questions- First Question: Did Disney send a bad message with “Hunchback of Notre Dame”?
Inspired by the man behind “Just A Dad With Disney Questions” (link below), and knowing that has retired his questioning days, I decided to start my own blog, “Just A Girl With Disney Questions”. And This Is My First Question, as the title states: Did Disney send a bad message with “Hunchback of Notre Dame”?
For those of you that haven’t seen the movie, Quasimodo is the hunchback, obviously, and he lives in a cathedral in Paris. Frollo, “raised” him essentially, and kept him in the cathedral. And totally forgets to mention to Quasi that he tried to kill him at birth by the way, but I’ll get to that some time later. But he meets Esmeralda, becomes her friend. She meets pretty boy knight Phobeus, who’s a bit of a cocky jerk at first. She gets in trouble because Frollo’s a sick pervert who’s all about Esmeralda (believe me I will get to THAT in another post), and Quasi and Phobeus have to save, Quasi and his gargoyle friends doing most of the work, and save the beautiful Esmeralda….and she turns around and marries the pretty boy with the personality of a wet mop.
So the nice guy finished last. Sure, you could point out that he get’s the girl in the second movie. But that doesn’t change the fact that Esmeralda gave Quasimodo the shaft. I guess when it comes to Disney, be as sweet and kind and heroic as you want, but if you look like poor Quasimodo, you ain’t gonna get the girl.
